Mixvibes Cross DJ 2.5 Makes Harmonic Mixing Easier Than Ever
Focus: Harmonic Mixing
Software: Cross DJ 2
Tags: mixvibes
Mixvibes’ latest update to its Cross DJ software includes key detection and a unique approach to key control. The update also adds support for more MIDI controllers, macro controls, and full screen browsing.
The main focus of the update is harmonic mixing. Not only can your key tracks, but you can use Cross DJ’s unique key controls to match the keys of multiple tracks together. Cross DJ 2.5 has a few features that other applications don’t have. The first is key highlighting. When browsing through your collection, tracks with compatible keys will be highlighted. This makes it easy to spot tracks that won’t clash when you bring them into the mix. The second is how the display of the key changes when you use pitch the track up or down. Instead of just showing you the change in semitones, Cross DJ 2.5 will actually show you what key you’re changing the track to. Finally, you can use the new Match button to automatically change the key to match to the track playing in the master deck. Harmonic mixing has never been easier.
The Cross DJ 2.5 update isn’t just about harmonic mixing. It also brings a new track collection view mode that minimizes the track decks so you can more easily find the next track to play. This is especially important if you are using 4 decks, as the collection is given very little screen space. Combine that with the new key highlighting and you’ve got a great new track browsing experience.
Along with the new harmonic mixing features and browsing mode is additional MIDI controller support. Cross DJ 2.5 now includes preset MIDI mappings for the Pioneer DDJ-SX, Native Instruments Kontrol X1, and more. You can also create more advanced MIDI mappings with MIDI macros that allow you to assign multiple software functions to one button, knob, or fader.
The 2.5 update is a free download for all current users of Cross DJ. You can read the official press release below.

Cross DJ 2.5 | Mix in harmony
Mixvibes introduces an update for Cross DJ, its Mac/PC flagship software. Blend tracks seamlessly, create mashups in seconds and record smooth mixtapes. Indeed, the 2.5 version features build-in key detection and control, new full screen collection and more.
Accurate Key detection for smooth harmonic mixes
There’s accurate buildin key detection right in Cross DJ: no need for third party software anymore. Key can be displayed in classic notation or harmonic code, making it easy to find matching tracks.
Key control and dynamic display
Key is just as important as BPM. Cross DJ displays it straight into the deck header. Match it automatically to the master deck, or change the pitch manually by semitones. The dynamic key display reflects those changes, and turns white when in harmony. Browsing by key is now super easy: key compatible tunes are highlighted in bright orange. Focus on other search criteria, and the key still pops up.
Easy browsing with new full screen collection
Selection is the heart of DJing. The collection view is now more intuitive than ever with the new miniplayers. It gives more space to browse tracks, while keeping an eye on what’s playing. Additionally, you can now drag and drop tracks between players and samplers - useful when you have only one turntable or CDJ.
Peak view markers: better understanding of track structure
DJs are used to production software grids to understand a track’s structure. Cross DJ is the first DJ application to show those markers on the track’s peak view, making it easy to mix musical phrases.
Mapping for Pioneer DDJSX and more
Mixvibes’ philosophy is to be as open as possible. Cross DJ 2.5 introduces one to one mappings of the latest popular controllers:
- Pioneer DDJSX
- Numark 4TRAK, N4 and Mixdeck Quad
- Vestax Spin 2
- NI Kontrol S4 and X1
What else is new in this update?
- Do advanced MIDI mappings with MIDI macros (i.e. assign multiple functions to one button)
